Installing hardwood flooring over a concrete subfloor?

We have a couple of things you may want to keep in mind.

Installing hardwood flooring over a concrete subfloor can often times become a nightmare if the product you have chosen is a solid wood flooring product. Solid woods will often absorb moisture from the concrete through the wood and show signs of moisture by cupping at the edges of the board or swelling. Often installing solid wood flooring over a concrete subfloor can result in breaking of the products warranty due to improper installation. How do we remedy this issue? Easy! Engineered wood flooring has come a long way and is now one of the strongest floors you can buy today. Engineered wood flooring's core provides a structure that can prevent cupping due to moisture in the subfloor and can be installed in virtually any climate. A lot of people are concerned that they will not get as much life out of an engineered wood floor over a solid wood floor, however, the wear layer on most quality engineered wood flooring products is either as thick or very close to the thickness of a 3/4" solid wood flooring product. Another perk of Engineered wood floors is they are generally more readily available as it takes less of the actual product to produce, for instance, a 3/4" solid board of american cherry requires the entire 3/4" board to be on product that is relatively hard to obtain, where as, the engineered product only requires that the wear layer be the american cherry and the rest of the product is generally a much easier to obatin wood such as pine, birch or oak. These products are grown in the USA and are green products for us to farm due to their rate of growth. Engineered wood flooring is a Green product as it uses less resources to produce and creates less waste in manufacturing. So worried about your product not being available in a solid wood floor?
